Bulldogs sweep Hawks in 4A North win
SANDPOINT — Senior Maddie Russo served up a season-high six aces, helping Sandpoint cruise to a 25-13, 25-17 and 25-11 straight set sweep of Lakeland in 4A Inland Empire League volleyball Thursday night at Les Rogers Court.
Beth Lewis finished with six kills and Hailey Olin five, Kennedy Search added 25 set assists, Maddie Suppiger two blocks and Russo 10 digs as the Bulldogs (3-2, 1-0 4A IEL) were never threatened.
“Every player went out and contributed. I felt like I was at a party,” said Bulldogs coach Karen Alsager of her team, which played loose. “That’s the way we practice, but it was the first time we’ve played that way.”
Kayla Fahlenkamp tallied five kills and Erin Ogden five digs to lead the Hawks (0-5, 0-2 4A IEL), who had trouble returning serve.
The Bulldogs and Hawks will both be in action on Saturday at the Lakeland Invitational, which features 22 teams from North Idaho and Spokane.
Wampus Cats sweep Warriors
HARRISON FLATS — Annie Wurm had nine set assists and Mariah Miller six kills to lead Clark Fork to a 25-21, 25-11 and 25-13 sweep of Kootenai in North Star League volleyball action Thursday night at Kootenai High School.
Autumn Wagoner posted three blocks and Heather Wold two digs for the Wampus Cats (5-2, 2-0 NSL).
“Our serving was a lot more consistent,” said head coach Michelle Adams. “We kept the ball in play, played scrappy, and played really well at the net tonight.”
Ellison Schultz posted seven set assists, Brie Benson five kills, Camille Grubham three aces and Lacey Goodson two blocks in defeat.
Clark Fork has a break in the schedule, and travels to Bonners Ferry on Sept. 15.
