CLARK FORK — The Clark Fork Wampus Cats suffered their first loss of the year to an aggressive Selkirk Rangers football team from neighboring Pend Oreille County, Wash. The larger B-league visitors handily beat the home team 52-8 at Clark Fork Field in a non-conference game.

The game began well for the Cats (2-1) as they scored first with a 30-yard rushing play by senior Axel Anderson, with extra points added by senior quarterback Zack Klein. From there the Rangers took charge and scored 52 unanswered points, before both coaches put in their second-string teams to finish out the closing minutes of the fourth quarter.

“I got to hand it to a good Selkirk football team,” said Clark Fork coach Brian Arthun. “They outhit us and out-executed us. We made mistakes, but against a good team you can’t make those mistakes: two fumbles, two interceptions, and missed assignments. But our kids showed toughness and sometimes a whooping like this can teach a team a lot.”

Clark Fork continues league play next week as they travel to Kootenai for a North Star League match up.
