Man to plead guilty in lewd conduct case

| September 9, 2012 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — A Bonner County man intends to plead guilty to molesting an underage girl over a four-year period.

Roy Lewis Baldwin is waiving his right to a preliminary on a charge of lewd and lascivious conduct, and proceeding to 1st District Court, according to court documents.

“I freely waive my right to such a hearing and understand that it will be next set for arraignment in District Court, where I intend to plead guilty,” Baldwin said in court documents.

Baldwin’s arraignment is set for Sept. 17.

Baldwin, a 66-year-old from Spirit Lake, had sexual contact with the girl from 2008 to 2012, when she was between the ages of 6 and 10, charging documents allege.

Baldwin is free on his own recognizance while the case is pending. He was summoned to court rather than arrested, which indicates that the state does not consider him a flight risk or a threat to public safety.
