Weme leads Bulldogs to tie with Ferris

| September 14, 2012 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Save for a brutal six minute span, the Bulldogs dominated a Greater Spokane League opponent, ultimately playing Ferris to a 3-3 tie in nonleague girls soccer Thursday night at War Memorial Field.

Emma Weme had a hand in all three goals for the Bulldogs (4-2-3), who built a 2-0 lead at half, only to watch it disappear when the Saxons scored three goals in six furious minutes to take the lead.

The Bulldogs scored first when a cross sent in by Weme went off a Saxons’ player for an own goal, then Kaylee Kiebert finished a Weme feed for a 2-0 lead just nine minutes into the game.

After Ferris took the lead midway through the second half, Meghan Pagano answered with the final goal on a pass from Weme to earn the tie.

“I was caught between two minds, with Moscow coming on Saturday in a game that means something,” said Bulldogs’ coach Conor Baranski of the tie, noting it was nice but essentially meaningless in the grand scheme of things. “Emma created every single goal, and Brooke (Obaitek) was solid in the midfield, we just had a little lull.”

Sandpoint hosts Moscow on Saturday, at noon at Centennial Field.
