Bulldogs down Post Falls

| September 18, 2012 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Sophomore Taylor Martin hammered nine kills, including a blast that knocked an opposing player onto her back, leading Sandpoint to a 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22 win over Post Falls in nonleague volleyball action Monday night at Les Rogers Court.

The Bulldogs (9-5) avenged a loss to the Trojans at the Lakeland Tournament, and head coach Karen Alsager said she liked how her team was able to finish games.

“I thought Post Falls played better tonight than at the tournament, they blocked a lot of balls,” said Alsager, lauding the emerging hitting of Martin in the attack. “She hits the ball really high with a jump reach, and it allows her to have some better success.”

Maddie Russo tallied 20 digs and three aces, Kennedy Search 34 assists and Maddie Suppiger two blocks for the Bulldogs, who took two of three matches from the Trojans this season.

Danielle Failor posted 10 kills and four blocks to lead the Trojans (6-8), Brenna Meehan added 33 set assists, Brooke Litalien 19 digs and Morgan Marshall four blocks in defeat.

“We had some decent passes where we could run some offense,” said Trojans coach Willow Hanna. “Dani had some good swings for us.”

Sandpoint gets a week off before hosting Coeur d’Alene next Tuesday.

n JV team remains undefeated

Amy Shepard and Katie Glaeser each had five kills, and Jessica Bovee added 18 digs, as the Bulldogs beat the Trojans 25-21, 25-3 and 10-15 on Monday night. The teams play a third set regardless of the outcome of the first two games, and the Bulldogs shuffled their lineup in the third set.
