Surging Bulldog girls hammer Coeur d'Alene 4-1
SANDPOINT — Senior Whitney Reichold, who recently returned from a foot injury, connected with sophomore Heidi Skinner for back to back goals just two minutes apart in the first half, leading Sandpoint to a 4-1 win over Coeur d’Alene in nonleague girls soccer Thursday at Centennial Field.
Skinner now has a team-high five goals on the season for the Bulldogs (7-2-3), who earned the season sweep of Coeur d’Alene with a solid effort across the board.
“Instead of practicing, we watched film yesterday, and the girls did all the things we talked about. It was a solid performance by the entire team, they came ready to play,” said Bulldogs head coach Conor Baranski, who once again praised the play of goalie Makayla Sundquist. “She’s helping us so much the way she is reading the game.”
Sisters Nan and Kaylee Kiebert added second half insurance goals for the Bulldogs, whose only two defeats have come at the hands of Greater Spokane League opponents.
Caelyn Orlandi scored in the 37th minute for the Vikings (2-6-1), who despite the outcome earned the respect of their coach.
“The girls did a good job of battling back and they played with spirit,” said head coach Tarragh Carr, whose team matched Sandpoint shot for shot. “The goals will come. We’re sick of shooting well and not putting it in the net.”
Sandpoint is at Post Falls on Saturday.
