SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint sophomore football team made it a clean sweep of Timberlake with a hard-fought 37-35 win on Saturday at Barlow Stadium, rolling up 527 yards of offense on the day.

The Bulldogs trailed 21-6 at halftime, before Gabe Lutz began to run wild. Lutz finished with 296 yards on 32 carries, scoring three touchdowns along the way. A 78 yard touchdown scamper by Lutz, sprung by a great block by tackle Josh Suto, helped kick start the offense.

Quarterback Nate Loutzenhiser finished 9-17 for 135 yards and a rushing touchdown, Mathew Timothy caught five passes for 92 yards and Curtis Roop gained 98 yards on 12 carries, also scoring a rushing touchdown. Dylan Kuzmich made some great defensive plays and center Billy Webber opened up some big holes for the running game.

A blocked punt in the fourth quarter by Rob Oakley put the Bulldogs on the one yard line, and a touchdown brought the Bulldogs to within 35-34. Two late completions by Loutzenhiser to Timothy put the ball on Timberlake’s 15 yard line with five second left in the game.

Kicker Alex O’Shea promptly drilled a 33 yard field goal as time expired to give the Bulldogs and head coach Jacob Peterson the win.
