Lewis leads Bulldogs in five set win over Vikings
SANDPOINT — Beth Lewis tallied 12 kills and three blocks, and Sandpoint won a couple of huge points in the fifth set, propelling the Bulldogs past the Vikings 25-12, 23-25, 25-17, 20-25 and 15-10 Tuesday night in nonleague volleyball at Les Rogers Court.
The Vikings (10-6) jumped out to an early lead in the fifth set, before the Bulldogs (10-5) won two pivotal points with some amazing digs and scrappy defense, which seemed to switch momentum.
“There were about five people that did something amazing in a five-minute span,” said Alsager of the fifth set. “There were some big moments that pulled us through.”
Hannah Neumann finished with 10 kills, Kennedy Search 29 set assists, Maddie Russo five aces and Maddie Suppiger five kills and three blocks for the Bulldogs. Kelli Plaster had the dig of the match at 9-9 in the fifth set for a key point, Taylor Martin made a couple of big plays and Lewis was the go-to hitter down the stretch.
“Beth had a great night. She was a gun for us tonight,” said Alsager, also lauding the play of Suppiger, who continues to see increased minutes in the rotation. “For someone who just picked up volleyball this year, she’s coming on.”
Kayla McGlathery had a match-high 21 kills for the Vikings, coming up with some monster spikes every time her team needed a point. Megan Ramseyer added 26 assists and two aces, Sydney Williams three blocks and Amy Norris 13 digs in defeat.
