Riley, Spartans down Lumberjacks in battle of QBs

| September 29, 2012 9:00 PM

PRIEST RIVER — Priest Rivers’ Cameron Riley and St. Maries’ Luke Feasline went toe-to-toe in a quarterback dual, which went down to the wire and the host Spartans won 27-24.

Riley completed 14 of his 22 passes for 169-yards to go along with 179-yards rushing and three touchdowns.

Feasline went 24 for 29 with 274-yards passing and four touchdowns through the air.

“The game was an emotion roller coaster,” Spartan coach Shane Douglas said. “It was back and forth and St. Maries came to play. We finally got more aggressive and made some clutch plays down the stretch.”

St. Maries (2-3) took their first lead of the game on a Feasline touchdown pass to Brad Bauer with a minute to play in the third quarter, but the lead didn’t last long.

Spartan R.C. Akre took the ensuing kickoff 90-yards to the house and helped Priest River (3-2) regain the lead. A nine minute drive in the fourth quarter that resulted in a Riley t.d. run helped seal the deal for the home team.

Akre had five catches for 73-yards for Priest River, which starts Intermountain League play when they host Kellogg on Friday.

“That was a good high school football game,” St. Maries coach Craig Tefft said. “Both teams came out competitive and made plays, Priest River just made a few more plays than us and that’s why they got the win.” “He (Feasline) did a good job taking what the D gave. He had a high completion rate and is having a real good year for us,” the coach added.

Bauer gained 56-yards receiving and found the endzone on all three of his catches for St. Maries, which starts Central Idaho League play Friday at Grangeville.
