| April 9, 2013 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — The Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce would like to welcome area residents and businesses to its general membership luncheon Thursday.

Dr. Joe Dunlap of North Idaho College will be speaking at the luncheon, which will be begins at noon in the community room of the Panhandle State Bank building, 414 Church.

Dunlap will be talking about the Sandpoint Branch of NIC and its efforts to bolster offerings for students in our area.

The North Idaho College Foundation is assisting the college with a fundraising goal of $100,000 to outfit a science lab for the NIC at Sandpoint campus located in the newly refurbished former Sandpoint High School building. The addition of a science lab in this facility will enable students to complete their science lab requirements right in Sandpoint and not have to make the trek to the main campus in Coeur d’Alene to obtain them. “There are many other reasons why a science lab is important and Dr. Dunlap will provide more information during his presentation,” said chambers spokesperson Mack Deibel.

Greater Sandpoint Chamber officials invited everyone in the community to attend the lunch meeting. Reservations are required and space is limited. The luncheons do fill up and the chamber does sometimes have to turn away walk-ins.

The cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Please register online at www.sandpointchamber.com or call 263-2161 to reserve a spot.
