Be safe and keep an eye out for each other

| April 11, 2013 7:00 AM

Spring is back in town, which means bikes on the roads again.

On March 28, I was driving up Euclid Avenue and a young man on a black bike, wearing black clothing, without a light or helmet and sitting straight up without using his handlebars, blasted right through the stop sign at Superior. He didn’t slow down or even turn to look up or down the street, but cut right in front of me. I drive just a bit below the speed limit on Euclid because of all the kids on the street, so nothing happened by some heartburn on my part.

My bucket list does not include killing somebody on a bicycle.

I ride a bike, wear a helmet and use a light in the evening. When I was a kid, I was allowed to ride all over town but my parents insisted I learn the rules of the road.

Please, let’s all learn to share the roads and keep an eye out for each other.
