| April 11, 2013 7:00 AM

PRIEST RIVER — Junior Eric Mortensen carded a seven-over-par 40 to win boys medalist honors for the host Spartans, who defeated Clark Fork and Cusick to open their season Wednesday at the Ranch Club Golf Course.

Play was suspended after 15 holes due to rain.

Jeremy MacDonald, Marcus Douglas, and Colton Nunley all shot in the low 40’s to round out the top golfers for Priest River, which shot a 164 to win as a team.

Clark Fork junior Keanu Dooley came in under 50 strokes, shooting a 48 to lead the way for the second place Cats. Wyatt Stevens turned in a 51 to help Clark Fork edge Cusick by only four strokes, 219-223.

On the girls side it was more of a competition against the course, as only three ladies teed it up.

Senior Tessa Vogel and sophomore Mary Dick matched one another nearly stroke-for-stroke, carding rounds of 57 and 60, respectively.

The Cats travel to Shoshone this Friday and the Spartans start Intermountain League play today at Kellogg.
