Secrets have their place in local hunting
I read with amusement Jim Daniel’s comments on the most popular hunting attire in North Idaho.
I know for a fact that underwear can be used as hunting attire, and that Hawaiian clothing is effective during the fall hunting season when the turkeys find flower gardens attractive.
But, overall, I think that secret hunting spots are just that, and are hard earned and not easily shared with newcomers.
It is far safer for “locals”, or those in the know, to say “I stepped out on the porch in my underwear” than to divulge just where an animal was harvested.
I also know for a fact that if you join a local sporting organization such as the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, or the Bonner County Sportsmen’s Association, for example, the local residents who are also members tend to share a few hunting secrets.
Our son and I both drew coveted Idaho moose tags the second year we lived here, and received immense help from the local residents that we had met through our RMEF and BCSA member … volunteer with local sportsmen’s groups, and learn the lay of the land while meeting great people.
Of course, warm camo long johns are not a bad thing to have handy!
