Hawks blank Bulldogs

| April 17, 2013 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Troy Carr and Justin White combined on a one-hitter, and Lakeland plated eight first inning runs en route to a 15-0 blanking of Sandpoint in a 4A Inland Empire League baseball game Tuesday at Pine St. Field.

Delane Sheppard has a triple and White a double for the Hawks (8-1, 2-0 4A IEL), who only had five hits but capitalized on nine walks and four errors by Sandpoint. C.J. Crane scored a team-high three runs in the win.

“Chris Jackson led off with a base hit to get us going, and it got the ball rolling and got everyone excited,” said Hawks coach Jason Bradbury, who said the Bulldogs were playing with class despite a rough stretch. “They’re all respectful kids and I respect that, it would be easy to be down.”

Freshman Tyler Newton had the only hit for the young Bulldogs (0-8, 0-2 4A IEL), who have four freshman and three sophomores seeing considerable playing time. Newton also came in and logged a couple of solid innings on the mound in relief, providing a lift to a pitching staff that has given up double digits in every game.

“Tyler came in and did a good job to stop the bleeding for us,” said Bulldogs head coach Chris Young, whose team continues to search for some offense.

Sandpoint hosts Post Falls on Thursday.
