Farrell collects three hits in defeat for Bulldogs
SANDPOINT — Senior Zac Farrell ripped three hits as the Bulldog bats showed some life, but once again errors proved costly as the Bulldogs lost 14-2 and 13-0 in a 4A Inland Empire League baseball doubleheader on Tuesday at Pine St. Field.
Jackson Russon added two base hits, Paul Sundquist had a double and scored twice and Jake Steen laced a triple for the Bulldogs (0-11, 0-4 4A IEL), who scored only two runs despite a season-high nine hits in defeat.
While they still haven’t won a game, the young Bulldogs are showing signs of improvement, finally finishing a full game.
“We had a goal of making it to the final inning — small steps,” said Bulldogs head coach Chris Young, whose team lost by the 10 run rule in the first nine games. “We’re starting to connect with the ball.”
The Bulldogs committed 13 errors in the two games, an issue that Young hopes can be corrected down the stretch.
“If we can eliminate the mistakes going into districts, it will give us a better opportunity to win games,” said Young.
Tyler Newton was effective in game two, holding the Bears to just three runs in the first three innings, before things fell apart. Newton, Steen and Quinn Pearlstein each had a hit in defeat in the nightcap.
