Rockwell victory leads Bulldogs past T-wolves

COEUR d’ALENE — Senior Megan Rockwell notched a tough three-set win over Hailey Little at No. 1 girls singles, leading the Bulldogs to a 9-3 win over the Timberwolves in a nonleague tennis match on Tuesday at Lake City High School.

“Megan showed her athleticism today in a two-and-a-half hour match,” said Bulldogs head coach Kent Anderson. “As the match wore on, she got faster and faster, and by the last half of the third set, her speed took away almost all of her opponent’s weapons.”

Anderson also praised the play of Daniel Durfee at No. 3 boys singles, lauding his hustle on every point, and called it a great team match.

“We have a drill in practice called the Sandpoint Drill, where it is expected that every ball is run down and returned no matter where it is fed,” said Anderson, a former college doubles player at the University of Montana. “It’s a brutal drill, but the benefits showed today.”

Lake City’s head coach was impressed with the depth of the Bulldogs.

“They’re very balanced,” Lake City girls coach Roger Keilig said of Sandpoint.

Sandpoint will get some great looks at the Inland Empire Tournament in Spokane this weekend, facing some of the top players in the region.
