Laws are already on books to stop crime

| April 30, 2013 7:00 AM

I wrote this letter more than 30 years ago, but I still believe the same is true today. Below is my letter.

I am writing this letter in outright fear for my country, its citizens and their constitutional rights.

I am 44 years old, spent 14 years as a deputy sheriff in San Diego County, served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and for the last eight years have been employed as a firefighters at Camp Pendleton.

In the past, I have been guilty of being lumped in with the silent majority, but no longer. With issues as important as handgun legislation, the death penalty, forced busing and income tax loopholes, I feel I must be heard.

I feel that ownership of a firearm or handgun by the citizens for the protection of their home and family is a must when so desired, especially during this period of high crime. This “must” includes both the rich and poor alike.

It is my opinion that the courts and attorneys have let the American people down. We have plenty of good laws on the books for the prosecution of criminals who have committed crimes where handguns and other firearms were used. Let’s have our judges deal out some maximum penalties instead of a few slapped wrists. Trying to put the blame on anyone besides our attorneys and lenient courts is trictly “witch hunting.”

I am not a vigilante at heart, and have not completely given up on our court system, but I do believe in the right of our citiens to bear and own handguns and a court system with teeth, for a strong America and protection for all.
