Crapo to visit Sandpoint, BF

| August 6, 2013 9:00 PM

SANDPOINT —  Idaho Sen. Mike Crapo will begin the August state work period with several events in the area.

Crapo will be meeting with Bonner County commissioners at 4:15 p.m. today at the Bonner County Administration Building, 1500 Highway 2.

Crapo is scheduled to speak at a community luncheon in Bonners Ferry earlier in the afternoon and view the progress made by the Kootenai River Restoration Project, aimed at improving flood control and recovery of sturgeon and burbot in Boundary County. He also plans to discuss recent concerns over federal government debt and the intrusion into the private business of Americans by the IRS, federal financial bureaus and other federal agencies.

Crapo will keynote a public community luncheon organized by Bonners Ferry business and civic leaders. The 12:30 p.m. event will be held at the Kootenai River Inn. Lunch is $10 per person.

Crapo is the lead Republican on the Senate Banking Committee and a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee.

He served on the President’s Commission on Federal Responsibility and Reform and on the informal Gang of Six bipartisan group of Senators seeking to reduce federal spending and the debt.

During visits around Idaho during the August state work period, Crapo will note how invasion of personal privacy issues continues to grow under federal agencies, ranging from the IRS to the National Security Agency, to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

He is also promoting tax reform ideas which could make the U.S. tax code more fair for taxpayers and investors alike.
