Hecker, Eagles offensive in first fall scrimmage
CHENEY — Former Sandpoint and current Eastern Washington University running back Cody Hecker caught two passes for 19 yards and also ran for a three yard score on his only carry as the No. 4 ranked Eagles held their first fall scrimmage on Saturday at Roos Field in Cheney.
The offense scored eight touchdowns and had 466 yards of offense in the 86-play scrimmage. Led by the 204 yards of total offense and three touchdown passes by sophomore quarterback Vernon Adams, the scrimmage wrapped up the first week-and-a-half of practices for the Eagles. Eastern will also scrimmage this coming Saturday at 9:45 a.m. at Roos Field, before opening the season Aug. 31 at Oregon State.
The Beavers are ranked No. 25 in the pre-season AP poll, and are a trendy surprise pick for breakout teams in the Pac 12. Hecker, listed on the Eagles roster as a 6-0, 210 pound junior, is currently vying for playing time as a backup running back.
