Olin, Gagnon power Bulldogs to sweep of Spartans
PRIEST RIVER — Hailey Olin scored 16 points to go along with six rebounds and five steals for the visiting Sandpoint Bulldogs, who stole a 50-40 nonleague win over Priest River Tuesday night.
Sandpoint (2-3) took their first lead of the game right before the end of the first half on a Nikole Alamillo bank and never looked back, getting hot in the second half.
“I called it our tryptophan break,” Sandpoint coach Bill Bender said about his team’s slow start. “It’s somewhat of a new feeling for the girls to be the team to beat, and I thought for the first quarter-and-a-half we were figuring that out, but the rest of the way we played like we knew just that.”
Alamillo hit four of her seven shots to score nine points in the third quarter for the Bulldogs, including another shot just before the buzzer to help extended the lead to four heading into the final quarter.
Sandpoint went 11-for-23 from the field for the game and connected on 4-10 three point attempts.
Emily Chatburn and Marayah Delgado each hit shots from beyond the arc late in the game to seal the win for the Bulldogs, who play at the Pendleton Tournament on Friday. Delgado finished with five points, six rebounds and six assists in a strong all-around game.
Katlyn Summers recorded the double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Spartans (2-1).
“Sandpoint was deadly from the line tonight,” Priest River coach Gary Stewart said. “They got hot and that was what separated us.”
