SANDPOINT — Former Sandpoint football standout A.J. Smith ended his four-year career at the University of Montana Western with a selection to the All-Frontier Conference first team recently.

The 6-2, 235 pound tight end hauled in 20 catches for 161 yards on the season for the Bulldogs (4-6), and his strong blocking in the run game earned him a spot on the all-league team, one of three Western Bulldogs to garner first team honors. As a junior last year, Smith earned second team honors on the same team, part of a strong career at the NAIA school in Dillon, Mont.

More impressively, Smith has been invited to play in the prestigious 2014 USA Football Bowl Festival for college all-star seniors on January 20. The bowl game mixes seniors from every level of football, including FCS, Division II, Division III, NAIA, NCCAA and USCAA.
