SANDPOINT — Showing that age is just a number, Sandpoint 85-year-old Doyle Crandall blasted a perfect score of 25 to lead the Sandpoint Gun Club at the Spokesman Review Trap Shoot recently.

Crandall, who instead of saying “pull” prefers to murmur a deep “argh,” also led the Sandpoint team at the Noxon Postal Shoot, nailing 42 targets. Following Crandall were Doug Bottcher (40), Randy Poelstra (40), Mike McKitrick (39) and Jerry Whitmire (39) for a team score of 161.

Valerie Hester shot a 37 and Linda Bottcher a 26 to lead the Sandpoint women shooters.

With Crandall’s perfect score, the Sandpoint Gun Club carded a 94 team score at the Spokesman Review shoot, as Bottcher, Poelstra and McKitrick each blew up 23 targets. Hester shot a 17 and Bottcher a 15 to lead the women.

Crandall’s perfect score was the first for the Sandpoint club this season.

“As far as a posted score of 25, it isn’t rare,” explained Sandpoint club member Louis Dash, “but it isn’t common as much in a smaller club as it is in a club with a mass amount of members.”
