BONNERS FERRY — A snowmobile outing turned tragic Saturday afternoon after a Washington state man died while out sledding with family and friends in the Camas Prairie area just across the Boundary County line.

The name of the 62-year-old Colville resident was not available at press time.

Mike Nielsen of Priest Lake Search & Rescue said the man was out snowmobiling with family and friends when he failed to meet up with them at the next rendezvous spot. One of the party went in search of him and found the man under his snowmobile.

However, he said it appears there was no serious trauma and noted the man had a history of heart problems. It’s “probable” that played a role, Nielsen said.

While CPR was done for an extended period, the man was declared deceased at the scene.
