SANDPOINT — A Sandpoint man was arrested Tuesday night for allegedly pointing a loaded .38-caliber pistol at a woman.

Frank Rodriguez is charged with aggravated assault. Bonner County Magistrate Judge Debra Heise set Rodriguez’s bail at $10,000 and ordered him to have no contact with the alleged victim.

Rodriguez withdrew his application for a public defender, according to court documents.

Sandpoint Police were summoned to a home in the 600 block of Superior Street after the alleged victim reported that Rodriguez had armed himself and was waving the gun around. She further alleged that Rodriguez leveled the weapon at her during one point in the confrontation.

Rodriguez, 62, denied pointing the weapon at her and alleged that the woman retrieved the pistol, handed to him and suggested that he shoot himself.

A preliminary hearing in the case is pending.
