License program is self-funding

This is in response to the letter to the editor written on Jan. 27 concerning the Lake Pend Oreille School District Transportation Department Commercial Driver License training program.

Due to public inquiries and general interest, our transportation department has developed a self-funded program to help individuals achieve a Class B CDL. The letter writer was concerned that tax dollars are being utilized to fund this program. We appreciate the inquiry as we want this program to be very transparent in our objectives.

This program will benefit the school district’s Transportation Department and is entirely funded through tuition paid for by individuals who are participating in the course. This training will place highly skilled professional drivers on the public roadways in the Inland Northwest, and allow them to pursue a professional career in transportation.
