Timberwolves take down Bulldogs in final home dual

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint’s Adam Weindl, the No. 3 ranked 170 pound wrestler in 4A, pinned Cory Dan in 2:54 of the second period, but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs lost 54-21 to the Timberwolves in a wrestling dual Thursday night at Les Rogers Court.
The Bulldogs (6-9) are still dealing with the after-effects of a nasty flu bug, and Lake City (5-7) finished with three forfeits.
“It’s been a frustrating two weeks, we’ve been decimated with the flu,” said Bulldogs head coach Mike Randles. “We can’t really train hard without breaking the immune system down.”
Lewis Dunton (132), Tyler Presser (138) and Josh Travers (220) also picked up solid wins for the Bulldogs. Mike Stormo, who along with Caleb Starrit, Mamie Mitchell and Arin Spade were honored on Senior Night, picked up a forfeit to round out the Sandpoint scoring.
“Lewis knocked off a state placer by working within the scope of solid technique,” said Randles, also praising Weindl. “Adam went to a secondary shot he’s been working on, maybe his best shot of the year.”
Sandpoint now turns its attention to the district wrestling tournament next weekend at Lakeland High School.
