Bulldog wrestlers primed for districts

| February 15, 2013 6:00 AM

Sandpoint junior Adam Weind, the No. 3-ranked 170-pound wrestler in the latest 4A state rankings on Idahowrestlingnews.com, will be among a host of Bulldog wrestlers vying for a state berth on Saturday during the 5A/4A/3A Region 1 wrestling tournament at Lakeland High School.

Action starts at 8 a.m., with the finals slated for 4:30 p.m., or as close as possible.

Sandpoint head coach Mike Randles will take a very young team down, looking to earn between six to 10 spots at state.

“If the freshmen and sophomores wrestle with confidence and avoid costly mistakes, we’ll be closer to 10 qualifiers,” said Randles, noting the 138-152 pound classes are loaded with returning state qualifiers.

“We will have six freshmen and sophomores competing at each of those weight classes, and Lakeland has their best team in probably six years. On the upside for us, we are the healthiest we’ve been in three-plus weeks and our youth have enough experience to create problems for opponents.”
