Missing man is found at border

EASTPORT — U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Field Operations officers recently located, and helped reunite an elderly, missing person with his family.

On Feb. 8, a car bearing a British Columbia license plate, driven by a male Canadian citizen attempted to enter the U.S. through a closed lane at the port of Eastport. Initially, CBP officers thought the driver was trying to enter the U.S. without inspection, but realized he wasn’t when they spoke to him. A query of the driver’s name showed him as a missing/endangered person in Canada.

The CBP officers turned the man over to Canada Border Services Agency officers who contacted his family to let them know he had been found and was safe. Family members expressed their great appreciation for his safe return.

“I am very impressed with the officers’ quick response under a highly stressful situation and realizing rapidly that the subject was in need of help. Further the officers followed through with CBSA to ensure he was reunited with his family,” said Eastport port director Tish Lagerwey.
