Bulldogs' season ends

RATHDRUM — Randy McCabe scored 14 points as the Lakeland Hawks hit six 3-pointers in the first half on the way to a 65-48 win against the Sandpoint Bulldogs in a loser-out game in the 4A Region 1 tournament on Tuesday at Hawk Court.

“We shot the ball really well in the first half,” Lakeland assistant coach Bill Ryan said. “The 3-pointers were by five different guys and we hit as many 2’s as we did 3’s in the first half.”

Lakeland (12-11) travels to Moscow (15-5) on Thursday for the Region 1 championship game. If Lakeland wins, they will travel to Moscow again on Friday with that winner advancing to the state tournament next week at Borah High in Boise.

“Our defense was pretty good and held them to five field goals in the first half,” Ryan said. “We just came out and played defense really hard.”

Jeremiah Gagnon scored 15 points and Matthew Burgstahler 10 for Sandpoint, which finishes a tough season at 2-20.

“Sandpoint to their credit never gave up,” Ryan said. “They were down 23 at halftime and even late in the fourth quarter, but still played hard. Every kid came off their bench and played hard.”
