Warriors down Wampus Cats
COEUR d’ALENE — It was a bad time to have a bad offensive night for Clark Fork, which struggled with two five point quarters in a 46-43 loss to Kootenai in the 1A Division II championship on Wednesday at Lake City High School.
Joey Hazinsky scored 15 points to go with five assists and three steals to lead the Wampus Cats (6-15), who scored 20 points in the second quarter but managed only 10 in the first and third.
“Our offense was just way out of synch. I take the blame for it, I couldn’t get them out of it,” said Cats head coach Corey Vogel. “The second quarter we moved the ball and had more energy, but it looked like we were sleepwalking in the first quarter.”
Zack Klein scored 11 points and Tristin Bristol pulled down 16 rebounds, and the Cats managed to take a three point fourth quarter lead despite the offensive struggles.
“We were still right in it late in the fourth, Zack has a shot at the buzzer to send it into overtime,” said Vogel, whose team was 5-3 in league play. “I’m proud of them, we got better as the season went on. It was just kind of a sour way to end.”
Boone Benson led the Warriors (8-10) with 16 points.
