Levy deserves support

| February 24, 2013 6:00 AM

We face the opportunity to vote for a school levy; an opportunity to say “yes” to our children, an opportunity to invest in our future.

This levy provides approximately one-third of district staffing, replaces our current levy, and funds all academic, athletic and extracurricular programs. Have we evaluated what our community looks like with a third fewer teachers in the classrooms? With no sports, band, choir, Model U.N., AcaDeca? Our schools are a reflection of what we believe in. We put our time, resources and energy into the things that matter most to us.

This vote is a chance to reaffirm that education and children are our highest priority. Our students and our teachers deserve our continued support.

Supporting great education has nothing to do with age, political affiliation, financial worth or number of children. It is one of those basic altruisms, the mark of all great societies. We can’t afford NOT to support our schools. We just have to vote “yes.”
