Sports, activities keep our students engaged

| February 28, 2013 6:00 AM

The Lake Pend Oreille School District supplemental levy is upon us once again.

If not for this levy, our schools would be stripped of everything extracurricular and one-third of all staffing. This would have a huge negative impact.

But these are the facts we all know. It is how the schools impact our children that many don’t understand. In sixth grade, my son joined the band program. Logan loved going to school because it was band day. He has continued band throughout middle school and has found something he is good at that keeps him motivated. Without levy money, these programs would be eliminated.

I can tell you firsthand, for many children, it is the extracurricular programs that keep them interested and in school.

Please join me in voting “yes” on March 12, not just for our schools but for our community.
