Meet-and-greet with Coon scheduled

| January 5, 2013 7:25 PM

I would like to take a moment to publicly thank everyone who has so graciously supported me as the Interim Police Chief and to introduce myself to those whom I have yet to meet.

Yes, the rumor is true, I was born and raised in Sandpoint and I am proud to call it home. My education began with the Sandpoint Head Start program and continues today. I am a proud graduate of Sandpoint High, Ricks College and LCSC, where I completed my bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

Over my career with the Sandpoint Police, I have often thought about those who have lead the charge before me and the impact they have had on me growing up here. I have been fortunate enough to have been influenced by great men and women both in my youth and early on in my career as a police officer.

I know there are many of you who give countless hours of service to our youth and our community and I am grateful for each and every one of you and the positive effects it brings to our community.

Over the past couple of months, several of you have expressed your concerns to me, which I appreciate. One of the main questions I am asked is what’s going to be the philosophy of the Sandpoint Police Department. My answer is the same today as it was over 15 years ago when I was interviewed for the patrol position and that is to serve and protect our community. I believe this is the fundamental job of a police officer.

For those of you who have any concerns about the Sandpoint Police Department, the direction we are headed in and/or any thoughts that you would like to share, I would encourage you to call or e-mail me.

Additionally, there will be an open house on Jan. 16 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Sandpoint City Council Chambers.

This will be an opportunity for you to meet and ask questions of your local police department.

Thank you for your support.
