Guns in schools idea warrants consideration

The Gunters’ expressions of disdain and belittlement toward the Republican central committee is harmful toward anyone truly trying to turn the tide of violence and unmindful of the real world in which we live.

Teachers are not the only caregivers of young people and are not the only citizens given the responsibility to instruct school-age youngsters. Differences of opinion can exist across a large area of discussion. How best to “protect” school children is one such area.

The subject of permitting teachers, those who so choose, to carry concealed weapons is an important current item for study and civil discourse — without derision or belittlement.

The presence of a staff of well-armed and well-trained teachers could aid the police and deter most criminals intent on doing anything similar to what happened in Newtown, Conn. Some teachers may welcome the responsibility. That is one of their freedoms in the U.S.
