Everyone entitled to donate as they wish
In a recent guest opinion, Dan McDonald attacked a basic tenet of the American legal system in that a person has the right to pass her estate, through the will process, to whom she chooses. There are laws to guarantee this procedure.
Dorothy Adler willed a large sum of money to the Bonner County Human Rights Task Force. I am executor of that will. The funds were distributed as the deceased described and I have been advised of the incredible impact the funds have had on their activities.
There are many worthy causes. One elderly woman cannot support them all. Dorothy Adler chose to benefit the causes dear to her and it is no one’s right to question or try to redistribute the money to causes they believe are worthier.
If Ms. Adler were alive today, she would inform Mr. McDonald that he should perhaps fund the charities he finds worthy with his own money, not hers.
