Wampus Cats swept by Stillwater Christian

| January 10, 2013 7:09 PM

KALISPELL, Mont. — Axel Anderson had a breakout game with a season-high 14 points to lead Clark Fork, but Stillwater Christian simply had too much offense, as the Wampus Cats fell 64-34 on Thursday in nonleague boys basketball in Montana.

Tristin Bristol added six points, 11 rebounds and three steals for the Wampus Cats (3-9), who struggled offensively as Stillwater continued to press into the fourth quarter despite the score.

“We actually played OK, we just couldn’t hit a shot. We had some good looks, they just weren’t falling, and that’s what we had to do to against that team,” said Cats head coach Corey Vogel, lauding the play of Anderson. “He was really aggressive on offense and played great defense.”

Clark Fork hosts Wallace on Saturday in a North Star League game.

Clark Fork scorers: Bowen 1, Nesbitt 2, A. Anderson 14, Klein 4, Hazinsky 3, Boudousquie 0, Bristol 6, Bahr 2, E. Anderson 2.

Nick Oas added nine points, Eich Anderson seven, Geoff Boudousquie six, Brandan Bowen five and Oda Kinney four for the Wampus Cats, who nabbed 10 steals as a team. Jaden Taylor dished out four assists.

“It was a two point game going into the 4th quarter and we played very good defense,” said coach Corey Vogel. “We held their post, who was their high scorer, scoreless in the fourth, and we only had nine turnovers.”

Prior to that, the Wampus Cats downed Kootenai 39-29, led by Taylor, who drained all three of his 3-point attempts to score nine points.

“Jaden had a great all-around game,” said Vogel. “As a team, we passed the ball very well.”

Jake Aguirre scored four points to go with five assists, Bowen added six points and four steals, Bahr four points and 10 rebounds, Anderson six points and Marcus Franck four for the Cats, who blew a one point game open in the fourth quarter.
