• Hazinsky has huge night in Clark Fork loss
CLARK FORK — Senior Joey Hazinsky had his best game of the season, going off for 21 points, 10 steals and five assists, but it wasn’t enough as the Wampus Cats fell 72-55 to Selkirk in nonleague boys basketball Tuesday night at Clark Fork High School.
Axel Anderson scored 14 points before fouling out early in the fourth quarter, and Tristin Bristol scored seven to go with 13 boards for the Wampus Cats (3-11), who continued their brutal nonleague schedule against Selkirk, which featured two 6-4 posts and plenty of depth.
Free throws continue to plague the Wampus Cats, who were just 8-23 on the night and trailed by single digits heading into the fourth quarter. Head coach Corey Vogel had high praise for the all-around play of the cat-quick Hazinsky.
“He was all over the court, and really penetrating to the basket,” said Vogel, noting Selkirk is one of the better B league teams in Washington. “They were just a little bigger and rougher.”
Zach Nesbitt added eight points for the Cats, who host Cusick on Tuesday.
