Miller, Vogel shoot Cats past Knights

CLARK FORK — Things are starting to click offensively for the Wampus Cats, who got 21 points apiece from Mariah Miller and Tessa Vogel to beat Lakeside 51-49 in North Star League girls basketball Thursday night at Clark Fork High School.

Miller was a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc, and also nabbed six steals, and Vogel was scoring all over the floor, as the Wampus Cats (6-9, 3-2 NSL) took over the game down the stretch.

“The girls seemed to pick up the pace in the fourth quarter, and we shot the ball really well,” said Cats coach Dexter Vogel, whose team finally broke through after three straight close losses. “The whole team looked much better tonight controlling the ball and looking for open people.”

Lyndsie Kiebert was solid from the point, dishing out eight assists, and Vogel and Annie Wurm each grabbed nine rebounds. The Wampus Cats committed just 12 turnovers, a number any coach would like, and were able to get some key stops in the fourth.

Avery Brown-Sonder and Carmen Nilson each scored 14 points to lead Lakeside (8-8, 2-2 NSL), which led for much of the game.
