Coon would make excellent SPD chief
What a bright ray of hope for the city of Sandpoint. I attended the city gathering at the Sandpoint City Council conference room last night, listening to interim Chief Corey Coon present himself to the attendees, and explain his concepts and plans for the future of Sandpoint policing. He is an advocate of community policing, a concept I am very aware of, as I was a liaison between the citizens of NE Seattle and the Seattle Police Department, for a number of years. The idea of citizens and the police working in concert with one another to eliminate problems within the community, works very well, and Corey is a person who believes in this idea.
He is young enough to have fresh ideas, and yet old enough to have experience in his job, two qualities which weigh heavily in his favor. All who attended the meeting last night were pleasantly surprised by his openness.
I wish him well in his bid for chief. He would be an excellent choice for the position. Now, if we could only get him to start working on that classic Ford Mustang in his garage …
