Sandpoint Junior All-Stars fall to Lakeland

| July 3, 2013 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint Junior All-Stars hit the ball hard often on in Tuesday’s District All-Star championship game at sweltering Pine St. Field.

Unfortunately, many of the shots went right to Lakeland defenders, as host Sandpoint fell 5-1 in the final of a best two-out-of-three series against their future 4A North rivals.

Jacob Cometto had an RBI double, Levi Irish laced a triple and Brock Browning had a double and scored a run for Sandpoint, as Sydney Bottomley went six innings on the mound in defeat.

In Monday’s game, Lakeland scored three runs in the sixth inning to score a 5-3 win over Sandpoint. Pat Kummer had four strikeouts and kept his team in the lead until the sixth inning. Walker Jacobson pitched relief in both games for Sandpoint.

Caiden Oliver had two hits, two runs and two stolen bases to lead the offense, and Kummer added an RBI and stolen base. Levi Irish had a hit and a steal, Tommy Groff a hit and an RBI, Kevin Gray a hit and a run scored and Jacobson a hit for Sandpoint on Monday.
