We have responsibility to restore government

| July 16, 2013 7:00 AM

In 1954, my family immigrated to the United States. My parents hoped we would be able to live the American dream. With hard work we made that dream a reality. Now, I fear that my offspring will not have those same opportunities.

In 2009, I started to study the Constitution and learn about the honorable, wise men who founded our constitutional republic. What I learned was not taught in school.

Quoting Dr. Richard Ebeling, “It is not an accident or a coincidence that during the first 150 years of America’s history there was virtually no welfare state and relatively few government regulations, controls and restrictions on the choices and actions of the free citizen. Such non-interference with each individual was a logical and necessary corollary of a view of man as possessing a right to his own life and the fruits of his own labor. To compel him to do things or sacrifice things against his will for some presumed national or social good was diametrically opposed to the “American ideal.”

Government is not meant to be altruistic, Americans are.

Our founders gave us a system that ensured an individual’s rights.

Our government has abandoned our Constitution. Daily we are asked to watch as our rights are infringed upon. The Internal Revenue Service, the Environmental Protection Agency and other agencies target groups and individuals. They enforce rules and regulations that are outside the powers granted in the Constitution.

Today, we have a responsibility to future generations to work to restore our constitutional republic.
