Deadline near to sign up for Sandpoint Junior Tackle football

SANDPOINT — Sandpoint Junior Tackle Football is now open to all 3rd through 8th graders, and the deadline to register for the 2013 season is Thursday, July 25. There will be a $20 fee for late registrations.

Junior Tackle is a feeder program for the Sandpoint High School football program.

“We’re looking to build the Bulldog Nation starting with the third graders on up,” said coach Martin Rodriguez, president of Sandpoint Jr. Tackle.

Sandpoint head coach Satini Pauiloa is on the board of Sandpoint Jr. Tackle and provides instruction to all levels, so the program is aligned to better prepare athletes for high school football.

“These kids coming into Sandpoint High from the Jr. Tackle program are already familiar with our system,” said Puailoa. “We’re building a solid foundation for the future.”

The registration fee covers helmet, shoulder pads, jersey and mouth guard. All players must have a sports physical in order to start practice. Practices start on Aug. 19 for 5th through 8th graders and Aug. 26 for 3rd/4th graders. All games are played on Saturdays.

Sandpoint Junior Tackle will also hold a free Mini-Camp on Aug. 6-7, from 5-7 p.m. each evening at Sandpoint High School. There is no registration for this camp, just show up and have fun.
