Gunter's experience, integrity welcomed

| June 4, 2013 7:00 AM

I remember that day, nearly three years ago, walking into the Sandpoint Library to say goodbye to an old friend, a man who embodied the East Bonner County Library District. I was going to try to talk him out of leaving, but by the time I got there I realized I was not going to talk him out of his values, principles and professionalism. So, with emotion, we both said goodbye.

Today is a new day. While at times others have made the trustee position about themselves, Wayne will make the position all about the library district. No more board meetings filled with time-wasting joshing and cronyism. Wayne will work hard for the benefit of library staff and patrons, as he did when he was the director. His expertise will be invaluable, especially at budget time.

It may only matter to me that Wayne received the most votes, but from the moment he announced his candidacy, I knew what the outcome would be. I believe the results of this election signify that the entire community, like me, is welcoming Wayne back with open arms. His ethics, values, and integrity are above reproach – traits that have been sorely lacking, and that are desperately needed, if the library district is to maintain its excellent reputation, financial condition, and ability to retain valued staff.

Thanks for answering the call. We will now all again benefit from your lifelong passion for the library. Congratulations, and welcome back, dear friend. Oh, and Gloria Ray, you rock, too.
