Strikers claim championship at 3 Blind Refs
The U15 Striker girls ended the spring season on a high note last weekend, dominating the competition en route to the championship.
The Strikers outscored their opponents 16-0, as goalie Paige DuMars kept a clean sheet for all four matches.
In the opener, Riley Couch scored two goals and Rainey Woodward added another as the Strikers beat KEYSA Rovers 3-0. Couch and Woodward would each score a goal in the second game, along with Paige Crane and Shalynne Heitstuman, and the defense was once again sharp in a 4-0 win over Kootenay South.
In Sunday’s semifinal, the Strikers routed the Columbia Valley Titans 8-0, with Taylor Ward and Couch each scoring two goals to lead the offense. Also scoring in the win were Olivia Moore, Sterling Healy, Violet Plummer and Caroline Hawkins.
The finals on Sunday was the match of the tournament for the Strikers. Sterling Healy scored an early goal, and the game features rough play befitting a title game. Paige DuMars was once again solid in goal and the Strikers earned a 1-0 win over Moscow for the championship.
The team seemed to get stronger as the season progressed, and will look to carry the momentum into the future.
