County clerk nominations reopened

SANDPOINT — A nominee for Bonner County Clerk has dropped out of the running, forcing the county’s Democratic Central Committee to re-open the nomination process.

Terry Stevens has withdrawn his application, leaving only two nominees to succeed Clerk Marie Scott. The central committee is required to present three nominees to the Bonner County commission.

The reasons for Stevens’ withdrawal were not disclosed. Bonner Democrat Chairwoman Laura Bry was not immediately available for comment Wednesday. A message seeking comment was not immediately returned.

Stevens, Jason Benell and Steve Johnson applied to complete the balance of Scott term. She announced last month she was retiring, although the effective date isn’t until July 1.
