Vogel to play basketball, golf at Olympic College

CLARK FORK — Clark Fork three-sport athlete Tessa Vogel will continue playing two sports in college, recently signing a letter of intent to play basketball and golf next season at Olympic College in Bremerton, Wash.

Vogel picked Olympic over Wenatchee, as the latter Northwest Community College Athletic Association school didn’t have golf, which ultimately swayed Vogel’s decision.

Vogel, who plans to study business administration and graduate to a four-year college, is happy to continue her athletic career at the next level.

“I was sad after basketball season ended, I had nothing to do,” said Vogel, who had tryouts with both Olympic and Wenatchee before her recent high school graduation. “They both really wanted me to come and play.”

Vogel credited her dad and coach, Dexter Vogel, with helping her decide to keep playing in college. She also praised Wampus Cats football coach Brian Arthun for helping train her and get her in peak shape for the tryouts with college players.

“I wouldn’t have done as well at tryouts without him, he really got me in shape for it,” said Vogel of Arthun.

Vogel was a starter on the volleyball and basketball teams, and was a threat to consistently hit double figures in points and rebounds.

She is excited to have an opportunity to play golf in the spring at Gold Mountain Golf Course, Olympic College’s home course.

“It’s one of the nicest courses in the state,” she said. “Maybe I’ll get good enough to keep playing at a four-year college.”
