Pilot unhurt after plane crash
COOLIN — There were no injuries after a pilot was unable to stop his plane after landing at the Cavanaugh Bay Airstrip on Sunday.
The pilot, Joseph Burch of Texas, was landing at the remote grass airstrip and was unable to stop at the south end of the runway, said Lt. Ror Lakewold of the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office. Burch told authorities that he was applying his brakes after landing about 6 p.m. Sunday but that the aircraft slid on the grass.
Burch slid across Eastshore Road and the aircraft came to a stop in the brush and small trees, Lakewold said. Burch was the only occupant in the aircraft and was uninjured. However, the aircraft sustained extensive damage.
The investigative information was forwarded to the FAA for any additional follow-up, Lakewold said.
