Campbell seeks clerk nomination
SANDPOINT — A third applicant has stepped up as a nominee to complete Bonner County Clerk Marie Scott’s term in office, according to the Bonner County Democratic Central Committee.
Susan Campbell, an attorney and registered nurse, has applied to be a nominee, said Laura Bry of the local party’s search subcommittee.
Campbell joins Jason Benell and Steve Johnson as potential nominees to finish Scott’s term.
The central committee is required to select three nominees, although Bry said the committee is leaving the application window open until at least July 5 and possibly even later than that if need be.
“We have three applicants right now, but we’re still looking,” Bry said.
The committee has until July 15 to submit its unranked list of nominees to the county commission, which will select one of them to finish Scott’s term in 2013.
Scott announced this spring she will retire from office in July, ending a 22-year political run. Scott is the last Democrat holding elected office in Bonner County government.
The central committee had three nominees to submit to the commission earlier this month, although one of the candidates abruptly withdrew from contention for reasons that were not divulged publicly.
Campbell is the wife of Scot Campbell, legal counsel for the city of Sandpoint.
According to a profile on LinkedIn, a social networking site for professional occupations, Susan Campbell was counsel for Two Jinn Inc., which does business as Aladdin Bail Bonds.
Prior to her five-year stint at Two Jinn, Campbell served as an associate attorney for the Boise-based Martens Law Office from 2006-2007 and was an Idaho deputy attorney general for about a year.
Campbell has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Idaho State University and earned her law degree from the University of Idaho.
She was admitted to the Idaho State Bar in 1990, according to the bar’s attorney roster.
