Jensen, Spayth earn post season honors for Thunder
SANDPOINT — Seniors Taylor Jensen and Andrew Spayth were each named to the All-Mountain Christian League boys basketball team recently, as voted on by the league’s coaches.
The duo helped the Kootenai Thunder finish third in the highly-competitive MCL season-ending tournament.
Spayth, a 6-foot-9 transfer from New York, was a handful for league defenders to contain, often drawing double and triple teams. He registered numerous triple-doubles on the season, just missing a couple of quadruple doubles, just missing double figures in points, rebounds, assists and blocks.
He also threw down several rim-rattling dunks, a rare feat in North Idaho basketball.
“He dominated. Being 6-9 helped a lot,” said Thunder boys head coach Joel Aispuro. “He opened things up for other players to get better. He loves passing, and is good at finding the open man.”
Jensen was injured for part of the season, but made it onto the team by being a force on the blocks alongside Spayth. He posted a handful of double-doubles in points and rebounds, and provided a steady presence on the team.
“All around good character and leadership,” said Aispuro of Jensen. “He’s strong, plays big, but can also play like a guard; very versatile.”
