Taxpayers still pay for charter schools

| March 3, 2013 6:00 AM

I strongly support the charter schools in Idaho. I think they are doing a wonderful job and wish them well in their future endeavors. However, I must comment on Mr. Millar’s statement about how the charter schools are financed.

His statement is accurate, but it opens the door for discussion of who pays for what and how.

We, the citizens of the United States do not hesitate to ask for assistance from our state and federal governments when we have an emergency, large or small. The money for that assistance comes from the same place the money comes from to support the public schools and the charter schools. It is the taxpayer. Whether the money comes from local levies or from Boise or from Washington, D.C., it is the taxpayer who is footing the bill. If we want our governments to spend less, we need to stop asking.

Mr. Millar, you folks are doing a fantastic job. Keep up the good work.
